I highly recommend this apartment if you are looking to explore the False Bay area, especially Kalk Bay, or even want to use it as a base for venturing further afield around Cape Town. I stayed at the Heart of Kalk Bay apartment with two friends from 10-17 March 2024 as we were on a five-day surf ski downwind paddling camp in the nearby Fish Hoek surf ski school. When we arrived, Carol, the host greeted us outside of the apartment and then we walked up the gated and private entrance staircase to the apartment door. Carol showed us around the apartment and we were immediately impressed with layout, décor, and interior design. The living room and kitchen are open plan, and there are double doors that open onto a large balcony which has a fantastic view over the Indian Ocean. The balcony has a large table and six chairs which is ideal for meals and drinks whilst soaking up the incredible views of the ocean. The balcony area also has sufficient space for clothes horses to dry wet beach clothing or store bicycles if you are planning on enjoying the many cycle routes around that part of Cape Town (one member of our group completed the Argus Race and stored his bike on the balcony). We started each day with a cold plunge in the Dalebrook Tidal Pool which is only a few minutes walk from the apartment so there were always wet clothes to dry. The kitchen is well-equipped with all utensils and appliances required for cooking. The only missing appliance was a washing machine which would have been useful for us as we were on the ocean every day. To be honest, we did not cook at all in the apartment during our stay as there are so many cafes and restaurants within 3-5 minute walk which are extremely good value for money. Our favourite breakfast places were Lekker, Bob’s Bagels, Bootlegger Coffee Company, and Olympia which are all a short walk from the apartment. For sun downers, I would recommend Sirrocco Café, the Brass Bell, or any of the bars with good ocean views. Dinner recommendations would include the Brass Bell, Salt, Olympia, and Satori. All of the beds were very comfortable and there was sufficient bedding and towels etc. It was the end of the summer so it was still quite warm during our stay so we slept with the windows open and you can listen to the ocean waves. There is some traffic noise from the road but this tended to die down by late evening and was generally masked by the sound of the waves. I felt very safe when I was staying in Kalk Bay, even walking around at night and the apartment is located on the second floor and only accessible through a locked steel door from the street level and then the apartment door has an outer steel gate, and a standard door. Overall, a fantastic apartment in a great location with amazing views and we will definitely be returning next year. Host Carol was very efficient on check in and check out, and always promptly responded on WhatsApp if we had any questions or asked for advice on places to go etc. - 3/27/2024
