how friendly they are
or not! Okay. Enough…
Rather let me start with a beautiful fully Cape Town disabled wheel chair friendly home or rather fully disabled-friendly….

We were also pleasantly surprised by the extra room above the garage. The house was clean, the open floor plan was great for my 1-year-old nephew to run around. This house is a great place for a family holiday.

Cape Town Wheelchair Transport & Tours
Cape Town; Various Mobility Transport Services in Cape Town
In Cape Town: suitable and affordable accessible transport for persons of all disabilities remains a challenge and is one of the largest barriers to their independence. Much of the Public Transport that is available to the general public is not always accessible to wheelchair users, while many persons with Visual Impairments and Intellectual Impairments require extra assistance, which is not always available. Government projects often include introducing services to specific Cities or Provinces, these services cater & are accessible for some persons with disabilities but many rural areas in South Africa do not have public transport, let alone accessible transport. These areas are largely reliant on the taxi industry which also carries challenges for persons with disabilities. There are however private companies & organisations such as Pro Mobility, Travel With René, QASA Beyond. Access & Charly's Care, who also specializes in the transport of persons with disabilities in South Africa,
Cape Town Airport Disability Wheelchair Assistance Services
Disability and wheelchair assistance services should always be requested through your airline prior to travel. Consult my list of airline wheelchair assistance contact numbers.
When I arrived in Cape Town, I was taken off the airplane in an aisle chair provided by the airport, transferred into a manual wheelchair in the jet bridge, then finally reunited with my wheelchair at baggage claim. I had protested for my wheelchair to be returned at the gate itself, but ultimately decided a protracted argument would only slow down the process.
The airplane that took me from Cape Town to Doha also had a jet bridge, but the Qatar Airways team decided to use a Passenger Aid Unit (also known as an AmbuLift or High Loader) to take me and my wheelchair from the terminal to the airplane. (Although and old article the logistical advice is still sound).

Cape Town Wheelchair Taxis
Public transportation will only get you so far in Cape Town. Some of the best attractions and sights are not accessible via the city’s transport system, and you’ll need to hire a wheelchair taxi.
Two wheelchair transportation services presently operate in Cape Town. One is a typical taxi company that offers wheelchair access using London-style cabs. Another is provided by a tour company using lift-equipped that provide more room and greater comfort. Although I have only used the latter, I have provided contact information for both companies below.
Cape Town Wheelchair Things To Do & Activities
Many of these articles show you two or more similar ideas. Showing you how popular they are but I included these as some add more or less info that may be of benefit to your planning.
Cape Town Wheelchair Friendly Attractions
Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Bordering a floral region recognized by UNESCO and set between Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Town creates a sense of wonder in all who visit. It is a place that travelers can enjoy in all seasons, but offers much more than a favorable climate and natural beauty. The city’s most popular attractions—the cable car to Table Mountain, the tour of Robben Island and the historic V&A Waterfront—are all wheelchair accessible.
Cape Town Wheelchair Friendly Activities: City Pass
Cape Town has been voted as one of the most beautiful cities in the world and who are we to argue with the professionals. With so many unique and interesting activities to take part in it’s difficult to narrow it down sometimes. If you are looking for wheelchair friendly activities in the Cape Town area then we have you covered with some of the best around. All those activities are included in your Cape Town City Pass.
Muizenberg rolls out access mat to make beach wheelchair-friendly
This week, Cape Town's famous surfing beach got a bit of a makeover. The City of Cape Town's Recreation and Parks Department, in partnership with the Western Cape Health Department, rolled out its first universal access mat at Muizenberg beach to also cater to physically impaired beach-goers.
Search Wheelchair friendly restaurants in Cape Town (And NOT FRIENDLY)
Frustrating. I am in no wheelchair. But finding a restaurant for you is not easy. Are restaurants not friendly or just not advertising the fact?
As I don’t know which are truly wheelchair friendly. But let me tell you what I look for when searching for a restaurant or similar. I check their Google Reviews. If they have many reviews and the reviews are above 4.1 out of 5 then I’ll go. If it’s 4.5 out of 5 then you’ll not stop me. What I did is I searched for “Wheelchair Friendly Restaurants in Cape Town” and pulled this list of restaurants where patrons etc mentioned wheelchair.
My concern is that many patrons say “NOT” wheelchair friendly.
Try these. Not the ideal. I suggest you read these reviews and go where the good money goes; the highest-ranking positive reviews.
Disabled Friendly Home Catering Cape Town With Monique
Out of frustration trying to find wheelchair-friendly restaurants in Cape Town, I thought why not rather cater for your disabled friends in a proper disable friendly home with a view no one can buy? I suggest a spitbraai. And one of our locals in Simonstown is the expert. Assume you stay here on the
beach with your beach wheelchair and you cater at home where you are comfortable?
Well. Now it’s over to you.
I’ll add to this list of Cape Town Disability Wheelchair friendly resources etc. But only you can tell me. Which places, things to do, transport, facilities etc should I add to my list of Cape Town Wheelchair friendly places? And disable friendly restaurants! If you don’t tell me how will others know? Tell me! Use the comments block below.
