Cape Town restaurants felt the COVID punch. It was not pretty to see. But those who could make massive changes. Today we share with you the latest Cape Town restaurant news.

I should not be amazed by the mental shift we all made during Covid. We could not continue as we did. Relatively speak; fat cats accepting the status quo.

Here are some of these Cape Town restaurants and a revealing glimpse into the way they see the future. Some changes are obvious some subtle.

History Boff? Addio, the legendary Aldo Girolo of Hildebrand

One day at lunch, restaurant manager Tony Yates served Prince Philip: ‘All through the lunch I’m clearing away and he never passed a remark about anything. Aldo used to make tiramisu, his recipe, and that was what Prince Philip had. So as I’m taking away his plate, he touched me and he said, “That was very nice, thank you very much”.’

Aldo Girolo, one of the original Italian restaurateurs in Cape Town, took over one of the city’s oldest establishments and reshaped it with his wife, Linda, into a booming family business. Last month Linda died in the hospital through complications from Covid-19.

Peter Tempelhoff to open new online Cape Town restaurant, Stickman by FYN
